Hi Everyone!

Well, we are having another fantastic event at Digitals! For the next 12 days go to the Digitals Forum here: http://digitalscrapbookpages.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=138 to get the clue that will lead you to where a specific designer has hidden their Christmas Cracker! Don't hesitate on this one because a new cracker and clue will be posted each day and will only be up for one week after it is posted! When you find it, click on the graphic to download your prize! I have seen them and believe me, there is some great stuff in those little packages! The ad above shows each designer's cracker and lists the designers that are participating in this event!

Happy hunting, everyone!

NEW CHALLENGES & FREEBIE TODAY!

Merry Christmas to Everyone from Nini's Notions! If you haven't signed up for the Digitals challenges yet, you really should! Nini's Notions is hosting two (2) challenges this month! First is the Designer's Element challenge. I have provided a cute mini-kit (see preview above right), and your layout must be created using only pieces from this kit. In conjunction with this challenge ALL of my Christmas products including alphabets are ON SALE until December 31st at 25% OFF!
Second is my popular monthly All In The Family challenge! This month we are scrapping our favorite Christmas memory. A kit is provided (see the preview above left -- all items not shown), and you must use at least one background and 3 elements from the kit to qualify for the posting bonus. Each bonus you earn from the challenges coordinate to make up one gorgeous mega kit!
I have a new freebie today -- a set of burnished gold and silver snowflakes! Use these to embellish those Christmas cards, or Christmas and winter layouts! Of course, the preview really doesn't do them justice! They are easily resized to fit your layout!

DOWNLOAD these HERE

I hope to have another freebie for you next week, so check back often! Santa has been sneaking around my computer and you never know what he might have left for me to give you!

Cheers!

BEAUTIFUL NEW FREEBIE!!!

Good morning to you all! I am a little late posting this, but better late than never..... right? Do you have photos to scrap that just scream, "I need elegant!"? Well, here it is! While creating my contribution for the Digitals Birthday Bash 4 celebration, I, of course, over-designed again and was wondering what I was going to do with all the extra backgrounds and elements. I gathered them up and decided to give them to YOU! There are 2 shabby backgrounds, 4 crushed velvet backgrounds along with for gold-rimmed glass frames, glass swirls, organza ribbons and butterflies and 6 beautiful dahlias!
The download is almost 100MB, so it may take awhile. I have lots of errands to run today, so here is the dowload LINK. I hope you all will leave comments either here or at 4Shared and let me know how you like it. Please post your layouts in my Gallery at Digitals so I can see what you have done! I am listed there as Sharon Walden. Post elsewhere too, if you like.
Have a great week!

NEW FREEBIE!!! IT'S BEGINNING TO LOOK A LOT LIKE CHRISTMAS

THE DOWNLOAD LINKS ARE BELOW

I know that most of you probably don't even want to think about it, but, yes, Christmas is just around the corner. My personal Christmas tree is decorated entirely with handmade ornaments made by me or purchased at craft shows over the years. I haven't done any new ones in awhile and I wanted to incorporate my new-found love of digital scrapbooking and designing this year. So, I came up with the ABSOLUTELY PERFECT hybrid project! Sugar Cookie Ornament Frames! Baked in my digital oven with love; frosted with cherry, mint, chocolate, lemon and vanilla icing and sprinkled with sugar, these digital cookies look good enough to eat!

They are large in size (around 6" tall), so you might want to resize them smaller if you are going to hang them on your tree or use in a digital layout, or leave them large and use as window decorations! There are 30 cookie frames and 14 ribbons in this set. Of course you won't use the digital ribbons if you decide to go hybrid.

Here are some hybrid suggestions:

1. Open the cookie file of your choice, make a duplicate copy, and close the original file. Resize if desired.

2. Print a draft copy (you can use the monochrome setting on your printer for this if you like so you don't waste the color ink).

3. Cut out the shape and use it to trace the shape onto heavy cardboard and cut out your cardboard shape.

4. Choose your photo and place it in back of the ornament. Resize the photo to fit as desired and erase any photo edges that are still showing.

5. Print your ornament on photo paper of your choice. You may choose to print 2 copies (one for the front and one for the back) or make another of the same shape with a different photo for the back. Make sure they are sized the same before printing.

6. If you are going to add any hand journaling, now is the time to do that if you intend to laminate your ornaments. You do not have to laminate them, but it does help protect them from dust.

7. I like to laminate my printed copies before cutting. If I am going to use a cardboard center as described above, I will laminate them at home using Avery Self-Adhesive Laminating Sheets.

8. If I am not using a cardboard center, I cut out the ornaments and adhere them back to back and take them to a local print shop and have them laminated with 10 mil laminate (about a thick as a drivers' license). If they use legal size you can fit more than one on a sheet. If you decide to use this method, be careful not to get the glue too close to the edge when adhering back to back -- the heat from the laminating machine will melt it and it may ruin your hard work.

9. If you are using a cardboard center, after you have adhered your printed copies to the cardboard, you may want to ink the edges or glue a narrow ribbon or metallic cord around the edges to give a finished look to the cardboard. If you have laminated your ornament and would like to add any "real" elements such as glitter or sequins, you should use a little piece of emery board or emery cloth to roughen the laminate slightly so that it will accept the glue. There may be some adhesives out there that are good for slick surfaces, but I am not aware of any at this time.

If you have any questions or suggestions, please post them in the comments section here on my blog. I will answer questions here.

DAY 7 FREEBIE & OTHER HYBRID TIPS

Wow! This week surely flew by! I hope you have enjoyed your downloads and have been inspired to try hybrid! If you would prefer to make your own layouts from scratch, I also have several Do-It-Yourself album kits in various shapes in my store at Digitals. These kits come with pre-shaped backgrounds and elements sized to fit the shapes. Of course you may resize them according to your preferences. Most of them are based on my 12 x 12 page kits and also contain the same elements, but in most cases many new elements have been added.

Feedback is important to me as a digital designer. Please feel free to let me know what you would like to see in the future.

Here is the LINK to Day 7's download. Now here is your surprise! For those of you who missed the August 18th download, I have re-uploaded it and am giving you that LINK also. You will now have 10 pages for your album! SORRY, THESE LINKS HAVE EXPIRED.

Thanks for joining me this week! Remember, there may be no freebies for the next couple of weeks while I work on finishing my contributions for Digitals' Birthday Bash #4! Hugs to all............

DAY 6 FREEBIE & MORE ABOUT LAMINATING

I guess I should have said yesterday that you should only laminate your pages if you are NOT adding "real" elements made of plastic such as buttons or glitter. The heat from the laminating machine will melt them and the glue you used to adhere them to your layout. You certainly don't need to laminate them at all. The reason I do is because of the humidity and the dust where I live and also because I rarely use "real" elements. You can also laminate them using laminating sheets that you can purchase at office supply stores -- no heat or machine required -- just peel and stick! I haven't tried it, but there may be a glue that will stick the "real" elements to your laminated pages.

HERE is your download for Day 6! SORRY, THIS LINK HAS EXPIRED.

MORE JOURNALING TIPS AND DAY 5 FREEBIE!

As I said previously, I personally like to do my journaling on the reverse side of the hybrid layout page. That is not to say that you can't put text on the layout side if you want to. Day 7's download includes 2 sets of journaling lines in both vertical or horizontal formats for you to use on the blank pages if you so desire.

I print the layout side and the plain side and then cut them out. I purchased one of those acid-free fine point pens made for scrapbookers and use it to write at least the name(s) and date on the blank page. I might also write the place the photo was taken (if known) and any other info I might have. I usually wait about 24 hours before doing this to make sure the printer ink is set.

If I am using a physical album, I then adhere the layout to one side and the journaling to the other side and let dry thoroughly. I prefer to use glue stics to do this -- especially if I have printed on lighter weight photo paper. After all my pages are complete, I take them to a local print shop and have them laminated. This can usually be done while you wait. When I get home I do the final trimming and punch the holes. I arrange my pages in the order I want them, add the covers and use either locking rings or ribbons to "bind" my album.

HERE is the link to Day 5's download. SORRY, THIS LINK HAS EXPIRED.

DAY 4 & JOURNALING ON YOUR HYBRIDS

I can't stress the importance of journaling enough! I mean... these albums you are working so hard on, whether they be 12 x 12, 8 x 8, brag books or hybrids, are a chronicle of a person or event that you want to pass on to future generations. Photographs fade with time, but with today's technology many printer inks are guaranteed to last 100 years or more with the proper care. Imagine! But scrapbook layouts with no dates or names will mean nothing to our great-great-great grandchildren! So, as your family's historian it is imperative that you not only leave your beautiful layouts for posterity but relevant information as well.

Here is your DAY 4 DOWNLOAD! SORRY, THIS LINK HAS EXPIRED.

HERE IS DAY 3!

Not enough scrapping hours in the day? I can certainly relate to that as I am sure most of you can. That is what makes these wonderful hybrid albums such fun! They are real time-savers when you need that special gift in a hurry! There are several different ways you can finish them. I personally like to have the layout page on one side and the journaling on the reverse side which I do by hand.

Here is your DOWNLOAD link for today! SORRY, THIS LINK HAS EXPIRED.

NEW BLOG FREEBIE WEEK: 9/15 - 9/21/08!!!

Well, Gustave and Ike have come and gone and I hope that is the last ones we see for this season! I was lucky this time and only was without power for 5 days -- some of my friends just got theirs back yesterday! Then they had to worry about storm surges from Ike pushing water out of Lakes Maurepas and Pontchartrain into the areas they live in. This has been a tough one for us all here in the southeast and southwest. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time.

I decided to do another freebie week since I will be busy working on completing my contribution for the Digitals Birthday Bash #4 which will include another Blog Train! So my blog freebies will be suspended until after the Birthday Bash activities. This week I am giving an entire Luggage Tag Album based on my Heritage Collection: Dear Old Dad page kit. These albums are really a lot larger than they look on your screen. This particular album is approximately 5-1/4" wide by 7-3/4" tall! By the end of the week, you will have 9 pages, 9 coordinating plain backgrounds and 3 sets of front and back covers! I have also included journaling lines in both horizontal and vertical formats. See the preview below:

And if you downloaded the freebie from August 18th, you will have a 10th coordinating page!

Here is the link to TODAY'S download. THESE LINKS WILL ONLY BE VALID FOR 24 HOURS. The kit will be available in my store after September 22nd.
SORRY, THIS LINK HAS EXPIRED.

FREEBIE: MISSING SCHOOL FRAMES PLUS 2!

Good Morning!

I checked all the files and there were 3 frames missing from the Back To School Week downloads -- #'s 5, 7 & 9. Also, there was a request for "Middle School" frames. So, I zipped them all up and am giving them to you today. Here is the link to DOWNLOAD. (SORRY, THIS LINK HAS EXPIRED) I guess it was a little confusing -- frames with the same words but different orientations. Some had the words inside the frames and some had the words on the outside; some were portrait and some were landscape. You should have a total of 40 different frames with this download.

This set of frames is exclusive to my blog -- I have not put them in my store at Digitals. I have, however, added a set of the frames in a subtle white woodgrain that will go with any kit you choose! Use them as is or recolor them to your liking! The preview is below.

I hope you have enjoyed this gift and also that you have been able to take advantage of the Back To School Sale at Digitals!

I promise I will have another super-freebie next week!

Saturday, September 6, 2008

Hi Ladies, I am back!

Well, Hurricane Gustave blew through here on Monday and really gave us a run for our money! Much more damage to our house and property than with Katrina 3 years ago! Nothing really major -- some shingle tabs, pieces of soffit and facia and the awning over our back porch are gone. Lots and lots of large branches laying around the yard -- just going to take a lot of time to clean it up.

The very worst thing was being out of power for 5 days -- 2 days less than Katrina. The upside was that we continually had a lot of cloud cover and rain so it didn't get up into the 90's like it did the last time which was definitely a blessing.

Someone asked why we couldn't evacuate. We have 3 dogs and 1 horse. We no longer own a horse trailer and so someone needed to be here to feed and care for him. Also, they really don't want you to bring your pets when you evacuate and there is NO WAY I am leaving my dogs! They did have minimal shelter provisions for pets and their owners this time, but I am not sure how that worked out -- I haven't heard any reports from people who used the service.

I checked out the files you all said were missing and you were right. So, I am uploading them tonight and will post the link tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your concern and prayers. I am so fortunate to be involved in a community where there are so many wonderful people!

HURRICANE WATCH

I am sorry to say that there will be no freebie this week. I have been so swamped trying to prepare for the hurricane (as we cannot evacuate) that I did not have time to make a freebie this week. We will probably lose power and, consequently, internet access. Don't worry my friends -- I will make it up to you as soon as I am able to power up my computer and get back online. Thank you so much for your continued support.

The Heritage Collection: Rose is now complete with the addition of an Add-On kit, a Bracket Album and the Do-It-Yourself Bracket Album kit. If you have the original "Rose" kit, the Add-On is a must have! The 15 additional backgrounds will give your heritage pages a beautiful start! More beautiful frames and ribbons too!

This week's freebie is a page that will coordinate with my new Heritage Collection: Dear Old Dad page kit. Perfect for photos of the man in your life -- not only your Dad! I hope you enjoy it! A complete album will be available soon!

Some sad news -- Tessa is no longer with our family. The girl I got her from wanted her back, so she came and picked her up yesterday afternoon. I only had her for a few days, but I became attached to her very quickly. The little dogs miss her terribly. But, I am not discouraged -- I am looking for a new big dog. I will know the right one when I see it. Wish me luck!

See you next week!

ADDITION TO THE FAMILY

I am so excited! We have a new member in our family! Her name is Tessa and she is an 8 month old, 90 Lb, chocolate Lab mix! She is so sweet! She thinks she is one of the teeny weiners! But she is kind of afraid of them too! LOL! It is really confusing, because my female weiner's name is Tess! So when I say, "Tessa" the little one comes too! I wonder how hard it is to change a dog's name at this age? We are both at a learning stage right now -- it has been over a year since I have owned a big dog. Here are a couple of pics of her:

Isn't she pretty? She is very well-behaved for such a young dog and totally housebroken! My husband wasn't too thrilled at first, but she loves him and is his new best friend. She likes to play and would love to sit on your lap if you would let her! I am hoping to get some pics of her outside so everyone can see how nice a dog she really is.

Little Tess is doing fine after her emergency surgery on August 1st. She has to go back and have her stitches removed on Friday. It has been hard finding food soft enough for her to eat (she had some major dental work done while she was under), but she has discovered that Vanilla yogurt is one of her new favorites! She also likes the baby food dinners! I can't wait until she is back to normal and eating regular dog food again. It is like cooking for a picky family -- 3 dogs, 3 different meals! LOL!

Don't forget to stop by this week and pick up your new freebie from Nini's Notions! It will be up tomorrow morning!

THIS WEEK'S FREEBIE!

Good morning, y'all! Well, I almost lost my beloved teeny weiner dog Tess on Friday! She had been acting kind of lethargic for a couple of days and stopped eating. So Friday morning I took her to the vet and they diagnosed her with Pyometra -- an infected uterus! Not uncommon in unspayed females! Long story short, I wasn't satisfied with the treatment plan and prognosis, so I took her to another vet and she ended up having an emergency hysterectomy! She is home now and doing well except for the eating part. I am hoping that her appetite will pick up in the next couple of days.

DO YOU LOVE FREE? Then read on! As you may or may not know, I host the All In The Family monthly challenge at Digitals. Each month I give a free kit and a layout challenge. This month I made a Do-It-Yourself Bracket Album with backgrounds and some elements from my Last Rose of Summer page kit. I also made some new elements to go along with the bracket album. Here is a preview of the challenge kit:

I loved the way it turned out, so this week's freebie is a bracket album page made with items from this kit. So, if you LOVE FREE, join the All In The Family challenge by going to the Digitals Forum, scroll down to the challenge list and click on ALL IN THE FAMILY and read the current month's challenge or CLICK HERE. Here is a preview of this week's freebie:

NEW FREEBIE FOR YOU!

Good Morning All!

Well, the Polar Express Blog Train and Christmas Present Hunt were a huge success! I hope you all were able to get all the goodies offered by me and my fellow designers at Digitals. But, if you didn't, most of the kits are available in the store now. Of course, while the blog train was chugging along, so was I! I added a new Do-It-Yourself album to my store! This one coordinates with my Heritage Collection: Timeless Romance page kit and Add-On and is perfect for engagements, weddings, anniversaries and Valentine's Day.

IDEA: You attended a wedding a year ago and now the happy couple is celebrating it's first anniversary. Since "paper" is the traditional gift, why not make a cute hybrid album using this kit and photos of the couple in various stages of the relationship: dating, engagement, wedding, etc. Use pretty ribbons instead of the locking rings to tie the pages together! And don't forget the journaling! Remember to put the dates of the photos at the very least.

These albums are small enough to display on a coffee or end table. They will even fit on those small, hinged stands that you can purchase at any craft store, Target or Wal-Mart. It is a one-of-a-kind gift that will be so appreciated and will last a lifetime!

Here are some pages that my friend Vicky Day did with this kit:

The kit includes 28 pre-shaped backgrounds and 70 assorted elements all sized to fit these pages. Additional resizing may be needed according to your layout. By popular request, I have even included a bonus quick page to get you started! How cool is that?

Here is the kit preview:
